Alanine aminotransferase (ALT) analysis

(ALT) is an enzyme predominantly found in the liver but is also present in kidneys, heart, muscle and plasma.

ALT is dramatically elevated with acute hepatitis, often due to a viral infection. Moderately high levels are linked with high alcohol consumption, diabetes and raised serum triglycerides all markers of fatty liver.

Serum ALT is used as a ratio with serum AST (aspartate aminotransferase) as biomarkers for a liver function test. Many drugs can elevate ALT so this needs to be taken into consideration when analyzing results.

This is an automated, standard assay. Please contact us for site-specific details in regards to research model capabilities.
