OECD 423/OCSPP 870,11: Acute oral toxicity (acute toxic class method)

A stepwise procedure with the use of a minimal number of animals per step is used to obtain sufficient information on the acute toxicity of the chemical to enable its classification. The chemical is administered orally to a group of rodents at one of the defined doses. Each step of the stepwise procedure consists of three rodents of a single sex (typically females). The absence or presence of compound-related mortality dosed at one step will determine the next step.
